Things to keep you busy during lockdown

The idea of writing an article in relation to a "lockdown" over a year ago would have been unheard of. Now more than ever, the home is a hub used to spark the imagination and wait out the lockdown periods. In addition, there is a huge need to create a work/live space. So what are some things you can be doing to not only spark the imagination but also keep you busy during the lockdown periods.

Clear out the wardrobe

Boy do we all have items that we have probably only worn once this year. Why not spend the time re-organising your wardrobe. Organising by colour and occasion. Anything that has not been worn in some time set aside. Make three piles – keep, donate and maybe – they maybe pile have a very good look at it and think about how you could see yourself wearing it – perhaps search some outfits on pinterest to inspire you. The other thing that people always need to do but rarely do is sort their sock drawer – this is an easy sit down in front of Netflix type job. If you find your storage is not up to scratch to assist organisation it is easy to complete some online shopping to aid your organisation.

Grow your cooking skills

Set some goals of a new cooking skill. Try and focus on useful tools such as creating new soups for winter or perhaps using a kitchen item you have had stored for some time. We all have kitchen utensils or cooker that is just sitting there so why not pull it out and use it. Or perhaps create your own pizza bases or pasta. I have herd of some people making a point of cooking every dish in a recipe book over time. This would be a nice way of forcing you out of your comfort zone and try something new!

Self-Care!

Sometimes it is the small things that can make us feel better about life and ourselves. Spend some time making a face mask or painting a manicure. You can even make your own moisturisers and soaps as part of it. Make extra’s and hand them out as gifts in the future.

Read a book

It seems nowadays the time allocated to actually sitting down and reading a book is just few and far between. Get away from the computer or phone screen and read a good book. Don’t have one, order one and just commit. There are so many amazing, cliff hanging books or perhaps you are more into self-improvement topics. Make sure it is a book you can really sink your teeth into. This will help fill some time and make you feel like you have escaped.

Exercise + Goals

There are so many in-home workouts nowadays you can really hone in to what you want to achieve. Perhaps setting a goal of being able to achieve so many squats or sit ups. Body weight offers one of the hardest fully body workouts so no need for expensive gym equipment. If you like to be a part of classes, there are 100’s of live free online classes which can also make you feel part of a group. In addition, you will dedicate that specific time to the workout.

Happy Hour!

This may sound odd but why not have Friday night drinks with your friends in lock down. Get everyone to join via zoom and share stories from the week. This will increase the social factor and you can tell them all about the meals you cooked or the soaps you made – they will share their stories as well. You could even pre-arrange it so that everyone can “pre-organise” a cocktail of the week!

Board Games

Yes, they are back from the past. Although there are so many variants out there play a board game or work on a puzzle over time. On your own? Invest in a sudoku book or finder word. We often are plagued by TV and then complain when we have watched “all of Netflix.” Board games offer entertainment and get you away from the screen.

Organise your photos

How many of us have a ridiculous amount of pictures on their iphone or laptop just begging to be organised or even made into an album. If it's not album worthy probably time to let it go. It is so easy nowadays to create photo books. Maybe make a few send some off to friend as a surprise during lockdown.

Start a Blog

This may seem like an odd one however all of the items listed above a blog worthy. Whether it is cooking recipes, fashion photo’s, puzzle updates, cocktail recipes they are all blog worthy. You might find you have quite a knack for this, in addition you can create ticktok videos or youtube videos or even a podcast It just depends on how far you want to go with it!

It is easy when lockdown is announced to see the four walls of your home closing in on you however, try and see it as an opportunity to really be comfortable at home. Take the time to appreciate what you have and explore new forms of happiness.
