Warm vrs Cool LED Lights

What is the best lighting for your home?

Lighting is the finishing touch to any home; it can make or break a home. Not only that it can also set a mood. So how do you choose between warm and cool LED lights? Here are some tips and trick to selecting the right lights for your home.

Kelvin is used in lighting to measure the colour temperature of a particular light bulb. The kelvin is a base unit of temperature in the International System of Units (SI). The higher the Kelvin rating (expressed in K), the whiter the light will be. It might be easier for us to set an example by showing a colour temperature chart as below (Source: Lumens light and living). You can see the lower the kelvin the more orange / warm the light is. You can see a candle is 1,900K.

Warm white light

Warm white lights are around 2000K -3000k (kelvins) and is a low colour temperature. It has a very warm, yellow and even orangey tone to it. This is the best light for living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms and outdoor spaces.

3100K – 4500K this type of light gives off a bright amount of white light; best for kitchens, offices, workspaces and vanities where task lighting is needed.

 Blue or Cool White Lights

Warm is around 5000k which is a difference of 2000k from cool to warm. Cool white is more similar to daylight and is a high colour temperature which is very bright and clean.

If you are still not 100% sure then you can seek advice from your electrician or even so there are a range of LED lights that have the ability to change by simply flicking a switch on the fitting from cool to warm. Or even allow you to switch to three settings so you don’t have to decide you can try each setting out over time and see what feels best.
